Ales

The Magnesia Bank has always been renowned for its tradition for serving cask ales. Previously it was voted Freehouse of Britain 2001 and won Tyneside CAMRA ‘Pub of the Year’. Today at the Magnesia Bank we are delighted to continue that tradition as can been seen by our recent nomination for ‘Best Beer Pub’.

Our Current Ales & Regular Beers

  ABV Tasting Notes
Theakstons Old Peculier  5.6% A strong beer with a rich flavour and full body.
Theakstons Best Bitter 3.8% The definitive English Bitter. This fine, golden coloured beer has a full flavour that lingers pleasantly on the palate. With a good bitter-sweet balance this beer has a robust hop character described as citrus and spicy.
Theakstons Black Bull Bitter 3.9% A bright amber bitter, well attenuated to give a crisp, refreshingly dry taste. The late and dry-hopping with Golding hops ensures a pronounced citrus fruit flavour and aroma. More bitter than Best, this refreshing beer is hopped using traditional Golding hops.
Magus 3.8% A pale session ale with lager qualities, it is aromatic, with citrus overtones. A complex blend of English, American, Slovenian and Czech hops provide an interest that develops as you drink. Very good with food.
Deuchars IPA 3.8% Deuchars IPA (India Pale Ale) is a pale gold colour with intense hop flavours and aromas balanced with Caledonian’s traditional soft maltiness. It is an excellent aperitif!
Mordue Workie Ticket 4.5% A tasty, complex beer with malt and hops throughout and a long, satisfying bitter finish. Well worthy of the title 'Champion Beer of Britain' award 1997.
We also have one more guest beer, currently  Everards Tiger     4.2%
