Colin, welcome on board. The beer and food is available every day. The music every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoon.

First time at The Magnesia Bank, why didn't we find this place sooner? Excellent food, good beer AND a live band. What more could we want. Will be back soon.

Fiona, thanks for the feedback. So glad you enjoyed the weekend, watch out for another 'blockbuster' coming up in March.

Thankyou for a lovely weekend of varied and top class music from the up and coming "Grooveline" with that excllent brass section, rock steady in quality "Sounds of the 6ts's" and the roaring Happy Cats that filled the pub as it deserves. Good selection .. keep it up please thankyou

Billy, glad you enjoyed The Neutronz, we have more of the same coming up soon in the form of Hiccup Riot and Some Like it Hot. Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Great night with The Nuetronz, love the idea of a rock n roll band playing Bowie and Springsteen numbers. Thanks to the Maggie for providing a great venue with great music.

Andy, its a pity a few more did not have your foresight. Mind you, 66 steps could be a lot with a head full of Magus... So remember, drink sensibly, and always have one for the road.

...It's the reason I bought my house 13 years ago. 66 footsteps from my front door...

Peter, glad you enjoyed The Force. The band had been trying to get a gig at The bank for ages, but circumstance always got in the way. Now that they have broken their Maggie virginity we are delighted to tell you they will be back in July. If rock music is the sort of thing you are into, keep an eye for the opther top rock bands who appear at The Magnesia Bank.

Saw the FORCE last night, totally blown away, what are they doing playing pubs, they are the best rock band I have ever seen ,absolutly awesome, what a coupe for the maggie , you MUST get them back.

Gemma. Fancy taking so long to discover one of Tyneside's greatest treasures. Glad you enjoyed Grooveline, if thats the sort of sound you like you should try Jam Hot on Friday 22nd January (it features Groovline's vocalist). Grooveline themselves return on Friday 26 February. See you then....

I've just found your site! We visited this pub on the day of the Great North Run 2009. There was a fantastic band playing in the bar. We all loved them. I think they were called Grooveline. Are they playing here again?

Good food, good music and a good crowd. Nice end to the weekend. Keep it up...

Max,
Congratulations on winning. Patience is a virtue that pays dividends eventually. You are right though, what a wimp! But remember drinking responsibly is very important, so perhaps you were only being sensible.

It took five years but i finally won the gallon of ale, but I failed to finish it in one session.....what a whimp!! Thanks Aunty Maggie....regards Max

I have to put a personal entry in the guestbook.
I went to the Maggie for the Sunday afternoon session with Little Mo (Mo Scott Band) to try and grab a few decent pics, I also had some Lunch, what a lovely piece of rare beef I had. I then stuck around for the Bank Suite gig by The Spikedrivers, and wow was I glad I did. I hadn't actually seen a live show by the Spikedrivers, bloody 'ell they're good. Never seen anyone using kitchen appliances in an R’n’B show for a long time. We all had a great night; hopefully they will be back before too long.

Its good to hear from you again Elise, it would seem that have not been here since May.
So glad to hear you enjoyed your visit (again). How lucky you are to have come to the Maggie when we had The Smokin' Spitfires Soul Band playing. Please come again soon.
Posted 31/10/2009 by Elise from Bucks.
What a great night we had last night, a nice meal and great music, I love soul and motown.
I love coming to the North East, especially since we discovered the Magnesia Bank.
I wish we had a bar like this were we live.

Well now David, thanks for the wonderful epistle. We are so glad you and your friends had such a great time over the weekend; we hope to see you every weekend from now on. After all, were else would you go, you’re probably not going to get a very warm welcome in other bars after praising us so highly.
It has taken time but the whole team have worked hard to bring the Maggie back from the brink, with our customers continued support, the future can only get brighter.

What a weekend...the best ever. Friday night with Heavy Load, Saturday night with Little Stevie and yesterday I persuaded a bunch of Old Maggie aficionados to return for lunch and the Revolutionaires...er wow!
We were there at the Maggie's beginning...happily enjoyed its rise to the peak... and wept at its precipitous decline under those who thought it was an easy act to follow.
Well. Congratulations to the Black Door Group, Andria, Jacqui and Terry, Ben and the team for seeing it for what it was, understanding the magic and giving us back what was, and is again, the greatest all-in-one venue in the North East. Real ales, good wines, great and affordable food, great atmosphere and music, and staff with a personality ( er..might be exaggerating a bit there..!) Brilliant.
Sorry Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, Jesmond, Gosforth and Newcastle....whats the attraction?...other than for a change from North Shields!

Gloria, glad you enjoyed The Mosaics. We currently have no return for them as yet.
If your intersted in artists and bands that write and perform their own material, have you come across Paul Liddell, The Delphians, Smokin Spitfires, Archie Brown, Steve Daggett or Lyndon Anderson, they all write and perform their own material.
Posted 21/10/2009 by Gloria Webb
Saw The Mosaics at the Magnesia Bank the other Sunday and thought they were brilliant!
Refreshing to see a band that write their own music - very talented lads ! Hope to see them again soon.

We just want to say what a wonderful wedding reception (both day and night) we had at The Magnesia Bank on 29 August 2009. Many of our friends and family have commented on it being the best wedding they have been to and that's in part to the wonderful people at the Maggie Bank who made everything run so smoothly. Thank you once again. (content edited)

Ali, thanks for the positive feedback.
The Junco's next scheduled visit to the Maggie is ealry December for their Christmas party. If you can't wait that long there's plenty of good R'n'B bands playing in the bar throughout the year. Keep checking the web site / Bank Account / posters for information and updates.
Posted 07/06/2009 by Ali
First time I've seen the new website - well impressed - and glad to hear the venue is getting back on track - keep up the good work ! I'm a big blues / R&B fan and the last Maggie gig I got to was The Junco Partners back in March - superb as usual. When's their next visit ?

Trance.
Thanks for comments. Sunday was a fantastic day and The Skywalkers will be back on Sunday 26 Julyfrom 4pm.
Regarding the past couple of years, many factors had an effect on the Maggie and not all positive.
The current management and team are all commited to developing the venue back into a great place to eat, drink and enjoy good music. This of course cannot happen overnight, but we are moving toward our goals.
Posted 11/05/2009 by Trance Bilker
Called in by chance on Sunday afternoon (10th May), what a surprise to find The Skywalkers playing. Haven't seen this band since the 80's. Absolutely fantastic. And its great to see the Maggie full again, I think a lot of harm was done over the past couple of years because of Brewery Managers who really had no interest in the venue.
