For the best in classic soul - look no further than The Stax Brothers, ideal for that special event or celebration. The Band was formed during the early part of 2002, since then they have become regular favourites at several of the regions leading music venues, included with Your very own Maggie Bank. They also have regular invitations to appear on Local BBC Radio. The Stax Brothers are a seven-piece band, utilising a full range of musicians including a two-piece brass section. Since hitting the live circuit they have had a massive impact with a big professional show packed with high-energy performances. Fully utilising the massive number of classic soul and blues sounds, they play a gritty, soulful and straight-ahead style of R’n’B, paying homage to those fabulous old Stax, Atlantic and Tamla Motown records of the 60’s and early 70’s. As the name suggests, the band plays an exciting, lively set crammed full of old soul, R'n'B and blues favourites, including Sam and Dave’s ‘Soul Man’, Wilson Pickett’s ‘Land of a 1000 Dances’ and Eddie Floyd’s ‘Knock on Wood’. The seven-piece line up is fronted by vocalist Paul Graham, who has worked with The Average White Band, The JB's as well as most notably, replacing Paul Young as vocalist with The Q-Tips. The age range of the band is from late teens to mid fifties, all hailing from the local area with the exception of North London born Paul. All the members excel in what they do and it is clear from their live performances that they love the music they produce. With enthusiasm and professionalism The Stax Brothers are an ideal choice when comes to providing entertainment for an audience whose musical preferences may be varied. Who can resist the sound of soul…? With the release of the bands first CD in August 2003 at a successful launch night staged at The Magnesia Bank, the Stax Brothers have set themselves up as the North’s premier soul and blues band. The CD imaginatively titled The Stax Brothers, features eleven tracks including Raise your hand, Take me to the river and Sweet Home Chicago.
