THE SKYWALKERS

One of the North East’s best ever blues bands - with a little jazz, a slice of ska and a big chunk of rock thrown into the mix. Favourites of the late 80s/early 90s Tyneside gig scene. The Barley Mow. The Jewish Mother. The Playhouse. The Wolsington House. And many, many more sweaty, smokey, boozy joints that had the shit rocked out of them. Before the lads jumped into a Transit, with a bottle of Jack Daniels and 20 Regal King Size, and ventured further afield. Manchester, London (including the fabled 100 Club) and even the Oxford Uni summer ball. Imagine Auf Wiederhesen Pet meets Brideshead Revisited. Then the college circuit, supporting the likes of Aswad, Canned Heat, Rose Royce and Gary Glitter (OK, let’s forget the last one). The Skywalkers. Last seen in 1992, in Manchester, before some bastards nicked all the gear from the back of the van. Anyone seen a gold sparkle Gretsch drum kit? A Trace Elliott bass stack? A full PA system? 17 years on, the boys are back - older and wiser and, yes in some cases, greyer and a little fuller of figure. But, as someone once said, the song remains the same. And so, ladies and gentlemen, please give it up for Byron Baddoo on vocals, Kenny ‘The Sax’ Kirsopp, Keith Nicholson on bass, Dave Morton on drums, and Steve Coady on guitar. (R.I.P. Rob Langdown…founder member and guitar ace).
